  • Best open-air meal: La Crest. The fountains make it feel like a treat.
  • Best view nearby: The VIBE-X. It’s high up, lively and just a short drive away.

Why Are There So Few Rooftops in Gandhinagar?

Gandhinagar was planned in the 1960s as Gujarat’s new capital. So, the planners chose a garden city, with 30 sectors, green belts and mostly low buildings. That’s why it feels so calm and leafy.

On the other hand, low buildings mean fewer rooftops. Most tall buildings are new, and they sit in the southern areas near Ahmedabad, such as Kudasan, Sargasan and Randesan. As these areas grow, more rooftop restaurants are sure to follow.

For now, though, open-air gardens and terraces fill the gap. In many ways, they suit the city better. After all, Gandhinagar is one of the greenest cities in India.

What About GIFT City?

GIFT City has Gandhinagar’s tallest towers. Yet, it doesn’t have a standout public rooftop restaurant yet.

That may change soon. In December 2025, the Gujarat government eased liquor rules inside GIFT City. Now, licensed venues can serve on lawns, poolsides and terraces, not just in set dining areas. Visitors from outside Gujarat need only a valid photo ID. As a result, more open-air and terrace dining is likely to appear in GIFT City. You can read the Business Standard report on the new rules. We also explain the wider rules in our Ahmedabad liquor guide.

For now, GIFT City’s food arena is a lively place for an evening meal among the lit-up towers. See our guide to the best cafes in Gandhinagar for GIFT City picks.

How Much Does an Evening Out Cost?

Prices vary from place to place. So, here’s a rough guide for two people.

  • Budget spots: About ₹700–1,200. For example, Greenland and Rasa sit in this range.
  • Mid-range spots: About ₹1,200–2,000. Most places on this list fall here.
  • Unlimited meals: Priced per person. So, a group dinner at Golden Bistro can be good value.
  • Romantic packages: These cost more, since they include decor, food and sometimes gifts.

In general, weekday meals cost less than weekend nights. Also, prices often go up on special dates, such as New Year’s Eve. So, always check before you book.

How to Plan a Surprise Rooftop Date

Want to make it special? Then follow these simple steps.

  1. Pick the place. For a private setup, choose Candle Light Date N Dinner. For a real rooftop, pick Golden Bistro or VIBE-X.
  2. Book early. Call at least three days ahead, and more on weekends.
  3. Ask about decor. Many places can add candles, flowers or a birthday banner.
  4. Time it right. Reach just before sunset, when the light is soft.
  5. Plan the cake. Ask if you can bring your own, or order one from the restaurant.
  6. Keep a backup. If it rains, check that there’s an indoor table.

Going With Kids or Older Guests?

Rooftops and gardens are great for families. Still, a little care helps.

First, check that there’s a lift, since some rooftops sit up steep stairs. Next, ask for a table away from the edge if you have small children. Also, carry water and a light shawl, because it can get windy up high.

Finally, choose a place with an indoor room too. That way, if anyone feels too hot or too cold, you can simply move inside. For instance, La Crest, Grove and Golden Bistro all have indoor seating.

Best Time for Rooftop and Open-Air Dining

Gandhinagar’s weather makes a big difference to an outdoor meal. So, plan by season.

  • November to February: This is the best time. Evenings are cool, and garden seats feel lovely.
  • March to June: Days are very hot, often above 40°C. So, go only after sunset, or sit indoors.
  • July to September: Monsoon rain can arrive without warning. Therefore, pick a place with a covered or AC area.
  • October: Evenings start to cool, and Navratri brings a festive mood to the city.

On any day, aim to arrive about 30 minutes before sunset. That way, you’ll see the sky change colour and then the lights come on.

Tips for a Great Evening Out

  1. Call ahead. Rooftop and outdoor areas sometimes close for events, rain or heat.
  2. Book on weekends. Outdoor tables fill up fast on Friday and Saturday nights.
  3. Carry mosquito repellent. Gardens and fountains can attract mosquitoes after dark.
  4. Bring a light layer. Winter evenings in Gandhinagar can get chilly.
  5. Ask about Jain options. Most restaurants here offer Jain versions of their dishes.
  6. Check parking. Kudasan gets busy on weekends. So, a cab may be easier.
  7. Look for app offers. Many places run deals through dining apps.

Pair Your Dinner With a Day Out
