Without doubt, ICSE has a loyal following among Ahmedabad parents. Many love its strong focus on English, reading and detailed subjects. Others choose it because it builds good writing and thinking skills early on.
However, there are far fewer ICSE schools in Ahmedabad than CBSE or Gujarat board schools. On top of that, many online lists get it wrong. Some schools called “ICSE” actually follow CBSE, Cambridge or the state board.
So, in this guide, we list the ICSE schools in Ahmedabad that we could check, grouped by area. For each one, you’ll find the classes offered, other boards, key facts, the official website and a Google Maps link. We also explain what ICSE and ISC mean, how admissions work, fees, and how to check a school’s status yourself.
How we checked: We confirmed each school’s board using its official website and CISCE-based school lists. This is not a ranking. Instead, it’s a starting list to help you shortlist. Boards, classes and campuses can change, so always double-check on the CISCE school locator before you apply.

What Are ICSE and ISC?
ICSE and ISC are exams run by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). Basically, it’s a national, non-government board based in New Delhi.
- ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) is the Class 10 board exam.
- ISC (Indian School Certificate) is the Class 12 board exam.
- CVE (Certificate in Vocational Education) is a job-skills option offered by some schools.
So, when a school says it’s “ICSE”, it may teach only up to Class 10. On the other hand, an “ICSE and ISC” school runs all the way to Class 12. This matters a lot when you plan ahead. Learn more on the official CISCE website.
Why Some Parents Choose ICSE
- Strong English: ICSE puts a big focus on English language and literature.
- Detailed subjects: Topics are covered in depth, which builds strong basics.
- Writing and thinking: Students write more, read more and learn to express ideas.
- Wide subject choice: There are many options, including arts, languages and applied subjects.
- Project work: Internal assessment and projects count towards marks.
- Good for study abroad: The English focus helps with exams like IELTS and SAT.
A Short History of CISCE
CISCE was set up in 1958. Back then, it took over exams that had earlier been linked to the University of Cambridge. So, from the start, it had a strong English and global flavour. Over time, it became a fully Indian board. Today, thousands of schools across India and a few abroad follow it. Still, its love of English, literature and detail remains.
Is ICSE Right for Your Child?
Not sure if ICSE is the right fit? Then think about your child first. ICSE often suits children who enjoy reading, writing and asking questions. It also suits those who like projects and hands-on work.
On the other hand, some children do better with a lighter load. Also, if your family may move to a small town, CBSE schools are easier to find. So, weigh your child’s style, your plans and the schools near you. In short, there’s no wrong answer, only the right fit.
ICSE vs CBSE vs Gujarat Board vs IB
| Board | Strengths | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| ICSE / ISC | English, depth, writing skills | Heavier syllabus; fewer schools in Ahmedabad |
| CBSE | National syllabus, JEE and NEET focus | Many schools; easy to switch cities |
| GSEB (Gujarat Board) | Lower fees, state colleges | Mainly for families staying in Gujarat |
| IB and Cambridge | Global outlook, study abroad | Much higher fees |

Why Ahmedabad Has Fewer ICSE Schools
You may wonder why ICSE schools are harder to find here. There are a few simple reasons. First, Gujarat has long had a strong state board, and many families stick with it. Next, CBSE grew fast as new suburbs came up. It suits families who move between cities. Also, ICSE needs teachers who are strong in English and many subjects. So, fewer schools choose it. Still, the ICSE schools that do exist often have a loyal fan base.

Recent news parents should know: In August 2025, a Class 10 student was fatally stabbed near the campus. However, after the school challenged this in court, the state withdrew the administrator in April 2026, and management returned to the school. Many websites mix up boards. So, note that these well-known schools are not ICSE.
- Riverside School: Cambridge International (plus NIOS).
- Rachana School, Shahibaug: CBSE.
- Mount Carmel High School, Navrangpura: Gujarat board.
- Mahatma Gandhi International School: IB and Cambridge.
- Ahmedabad International School: Cambridge, IB and Gujarat board.
- Calorx Public School: CBSE.
- Hebron School, Maninagar: Gujarat board.
- Prakash Higher Secondary: CBSE.
- Anand Niketan Bhadaj and Maninagar: CBSE (only Shilaj and Satellite are ICSE).
- Zydus School, Godhavi: CBSE (only Vejalpur is ICSE).
How to Check If a School Is Really ICSE
Luckily, this takes just a few minutes. Here’s how.
- Open the CISCE locator. First, go to the CISCE school locator.
- Search your area. Next, choose Gujarat and search by city or school name.
- Check the level. Then, see whether the school is affiliated for ICSE (Class 10), ISC (Class 12) or both.
- Match the address. Finally, make sure the address matches the campus you’re visiting.
Also, ask the school to show its CISCE affiliation letter and school code. A genuine school will happily share them.
ICSE and Entrance Exams (JEE, NEET)
Many parents ask if ICSE students can crack JEE or NEET. The answer is yes. Thousands do every year. However, these exams are based closely on NCERT books. So, ISC students in science often add NCERT reading or coaching in Class 11 and 12.
The good news is that ICSE’s depth builds strong basics. As a result, many ICSE students find the concepts easy to grasp. They just need to adjust to the exam pattern. So, ask each school how it supports students aiming for these exams.
ICSE and Studying Abroad
ICSE is also popular with families who plan to study abroad. For one thing, its focus on English helps with tests like IELTS, TOEFL and SAT. For another, the habit of writing essays and projects matches how many foreign universities teach. Also, ISC marks are widely accepted by universities around the world. Still, always check the entry rules of each university.
How the ICSE Syllabus Works
As noted, ICSE is known for depth. So, it helps to know how it’s set up.
- Compulsory subjects in Class 10: Usually English, a second language, history and civics, and geography.
- Elective groups: Students pick subjects like maths, science, computer applications, commercial studies, art or economics.
- Internal assessment: Project work and practicals count towards final marks.
- English literature: Students read plays, poems and stories, which builds strong language skills.
In Class 11 and 12 (ISC), students choose subjects to suit their plans, such as science, commerce or humanities.
ICSE Results and Exams: What’s New
CISCE usually announces results for ICSE and ISC in late April or May. For example, the 2026 results came out on 30 April 2026. The pass rate was 99.18% for ICSE and 99.14% for ISC. Also, CISCE didn’t publish a toppers’ list, in line with its recent approach.
The pass mark is 33% in each subject. In addition, CISCE offers an improvement exam after results, so students can try to raise their marks. Rules can change, so check the official CISCE website for the latest updates.
Where ICSE Students Go After School
ISC students go on to all kinds of paths. For example, many join engineering, medical or law colleges through entrance exams. Others choose design, business or liberal arts. Also, some head abroad for study. In Ahmedabad itself, they can aim for places like IIM Ahmedabad, CEPT, NID, Nirma University and many more. In short, ICSE opens the same doors as any other major board.
How to Choose the Right ICSE School
There’s no single “best” school. Instead, the right school is the one that fits your child and your family. Here’s what to think about.
- Classes offered: First, check if the school goes up to Class 12 (ISC), or only to Class 10.
- Distance: Next, keep the commute short. Many ICSE schools sit on the city’s edge.
- Other boards: Also, some schools offer IB or Cambridge too, which can help later.
- Class size: Smaller classes usually mean more attention.
- Teachers: Ask about training and how long teachers stay.
- Facilities: Look at labs, libraries, sports and safety.
- Culture: Finally, visit, watch how students behave and trust your gut.
Questions to Ask on a School Visit
- Is the school affiliated for ICSE, ISC or both?
- What is the CISCE school code?
- How many students are in each class?
- Which subjects and streams are offered in Class 11 and 12?
- How does the school prepare students for entrance exams like JEE or NEET?
- What safety steps are in place on campus and on buses?
- How often do teachers meet parents?
- What is the full yearly fee, and has the FRC approved it?
- How much homework do students get?
- What do past students go on to do?
Nursery, KG and the Early Years
Most ICSE schools in Ahmedabad start from nursery or pre-primary. So, if your child is small, you may apply before Class 1.
Under the National Education Policy 2020, the early years now get more focus. The first stage, for ages 3 to 8, covers pre-school and Classes 1 and 2. At this age, children learn best through play, stories, songs and hands-on tasks. So, when you visit, ask how the school teaches its youngest students. Ideally, it should feel joyful, not like a race.
Choosing Subjects in Class 11 (ISC)
ISC gives students a wide choice of subjects. Most schools offer a mix of the following streams.
- Science with maths: For engineering, tech and many science careers.
- Science with biology: For medicine, pharmacy and life sciences.
- Commerce: For business, finance and accounting.
- Humanities: For law, design, media and social sciences.
However, not every school offers every subject. So, check the list closely before you commit.
Switching Between ICSE and CBSE
Families often switch boards, mostly in Class 6, 9 or 11. Moving from ICSE to CBSE is usually smooth. That’s because ICSE students are used to a detailed syllabus. On the other hand, moving from CBSE to ICSE can feel harder at first. The English and literature load is heavier, and there’s more writing.
So, if you’re switching, give your child a few months of extra support. Also, ask the new school about bridge classes or reading lists.
Admission Process for ICSE Schools in Ahmedabad
Generally, most private ICSE schools follow a similar process. However, dates and steps vary. So, check each school’s website.
- Shortlist schools. Start 9 to 12 months before the new session.
- Attend open days. Many schools hold campus tours between October and January.
- Fill the form. Most schools take forms online, often with a small fee.
- Interaction or test. Young children usually have a friendly chat. Older students may take a test.
- Offer and fees. If selected, you’ll get an offer. Then, you pay fees to confirm the seat.
- Submit documents. Finally, submit certificates and records.
Age Rule for Class 1 in Gujarat
In Gujarat, the state requires children to be 6 years old on 1 June to join Class 1. This rule has applied since the 2023–24 session, and the Gujarat High Court upheld it in 2023. Many ICSE schools in the city also follow it. For example, Zydus posts the rule on its own website. Still, confirm the exact age rule with each school, since pre-primary limits can differ.
Documents Usually Needed
- Child’s birth certificate
- Aadhaar card of the child and parents
- Recent passport-size photos
- Proof of address
- Previous school report card (for older students)
- Transfer or leaving certificate (for older students)
How to Prepare Your Child for the Interaction
For young children, the school “interview” is usually a relaxed chat. Still, a few simple steps help.
- Keep it fun. Tell your child they’ll meet some friendly teachers.
- Practise basics. For example, let them say their name, age and favourite things.
- Read together. Picture books help children talk about what they see.
- Rest well. A good night’s sleep makes a big difference.
- Stay calm. Kids pick up on your mood, so relax.
For older students, schools may set a short test in English and maths. Since ICSE values English, reading and writing practice helps a lot.
What a Typical School Day Looks Like
Every school is different. Still, most days follow a similar pattern. First, there’s a morning assembly. Then come six to eight classes, with a short break and a lunch break. Along the way, there may be library, sports, music or art periods. Finally, some schools run clubs or extra classes after hours. For young children, the day is shorter and more playful. So, ask each school for its timetable.
Boarding Options
Want a boarding school? Then you have a couple of choices near the city. For example, SGVP International School offers boarding for boys. Also, JG International School has day and boarding options. Boarding can build independence. However, it isn’t right for every child. So, visit the hostel, meet the staff and ask about food, health care and weekend plans.
What About Fees?
As you’d expect, ICSE school fees in Ahmedabad vary a lot. Generally, schools with big campuses, boarding or extra boards like IB cost more. Meanwhile, smaller neighbourhood schools usually charge less.
In Gujarat, private school fees are regulated. Under the state’s 2017 fee law, a Fee Regulation Committee (FRC) reviews and approves fees. So, you can ask a school whether its fees are FRC-approved.
Hidden Costs to Ask About
- Admission or one-time fee
- Transport
- Books and uniforms
- Trips, events and activities
- Meals or boarding
- Coaching for entrance exams
RTE Seats in ICSE Schools
Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, private unaided schools must keep 25% of entry-level seats free for eligible children. In Gujarat, you apply online through the RTE Gujarat portal. However, some schools, such as protected minority institutions, may be exempt. So, check which schools are listed on the portal each year.
Building a Reading Habit at Home
ICSE rewards children who love to read. So, you can help a lot at home. First, keep books around the house. Next, read together for 15 minutes a day. Also, visit libraries and bookshops on weekends. Then, talk about the stories you read. Finally, let your child pick books they enjoy, even comics. After all, the goal is to make reading a joy, not a chore.
Support for Children With Special Needs
If your child needs extra help, ask early. For example, find out if the school has a special educator or a counsellor. Also, ask how it adapts lessons and exams. In addition, check the campus for ramps, lifts and accessible toilets. Support levels vary a lot, so talk to parents whose children get similar help.
School Transport and Safety
Safety matters as much as marks. So, ask a few key questions before you decide.
- Do school buses have GPS, CCTV and a female attendant?
- Are staff and drivers checked before hiring?
- Is the campus gated, with visitor checks?
- Is there a nurse and a first-aid room?
- How does the school handle bullying and fights?
Red Flags to Watch For
- No CISCE code: If the school can’t share one, be careful.
- “ICSE pattern” wording: This may mean the school copies the syllabus but isn’t affiliated.
- Affiliation only to Class 10: Your child may need to move for Class 11.
- Pressure to pay fast: Good schools give you time to decide.
- Unclear fees: Ask for a full, written fee list.
- Weak safety: Open gates or crowded buses are warning signs.
A Simple Admission Timeline
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| July to September | Research ICSE schools and make a shortlist |
| October to December | Visit campuses and attend open days |
| November to January | Fill forms and attend interactions |
| January to March | Get offers, pay fees and submit documents |
| March to April | Apply for RTE seats, if eligible |
| April or June | New session begins |
ICSE Schools by Budget
We don’t list exact fees, since they change each year. Still, here’s a rough guide.
- Lower cost: Smaller neighbourhood schools, mainly those up to Class 10.
- Mid-range: Established schools with good basics and fair fees.
- Premium: Big campuses, boarding, or schools that also offer IB or Cambridge.
In any case, ask for the full, FRC-approved fee list before you decide.
Helping Your Child Settle In
The first weeks at a new school can feel big. But a few small steps help. First, visit the campus together before the first day. Next, keep a steady routine for sleep and meals. Also, talk about the day each evening, and listen more than you speak. Then, meet the class teacher early. Finally, be patient. Most children settle in within a month or two.

However, many lists online get boards wrong. So, shortlist a few schools near home, visit them, talk to parents and verify each one on the CISCE locator. That way, you’ll choose with confidence.

Boards, affiliation levels, campuses, fees and admission rules can change. So, always verify on the CISCE locator and the school’s official website before you apply. This list is not a ranking.
